About the Role

The Quantitative Analyst will support our research on alternative investments as a member of the research and analytical team and assist with a variety of high-impact projects for institutional clients.

Recently analysts have written in-depth reports on private equity as well as tax-advantaged investing in film; assisted with operational due diligence on high-profile hedge funds; built an asset allocation model for a leading wealth manager; contributed to a leading market survey of factor-based investment strategies; and managed the transition of multi-million pound pension fund assets.

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Collection, management and maintenance of performance data on financial assets, funds, and investment strategies from external data vendors and other information sources
  • Quantitative analysis of performance data, performance attribution, and benchmarking
  • Factor analysis of liquid alternative investments, such as alternative risk premia, alternative beta, hedge funds, and diversified growth funds
  • Ad-hoc and client-driven quantitative analysis, such as portfolio optimisation, peer-group analysis, and back-testing
  • Researching managers, funds, and the markets in which they operate
  • Assisting in the completion of analysis and report writing
  • Developing expertise quickly on major sectors of interest to the investment community
  • Supporting the other functions of the research and analytical team
  • Liaise with other departments from MJ Hudson- from the firm’s law offering to our fund management solutions offering- to provide a one-stop shop for alternative investments

Candidate profile

  • Drive, energy and ambition to achieve results
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and data management skills
  • Good quantitative programming skills, in Python or R
  • Data programming skills, such as scripting and SQL, are a plus
  • Interest in Data Visualisation, is desirable
  • Good report writing and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to use initiative and work independently
  • Part-qualified professional qualifications such as the CFA are welcomed


Candidates must have an upper-second level degree from a good university, ideally in finance, statistics, mathematics, engineering, or hard sciences. Candidates must have a good working knowledge of data management and statistical analysis, including regression, time series, and principal components analysis. We are ideally looking for a candidate with a finance degree combined with a strong quantitative background, or alternatively a mathematics / statistics / engineering / sciences degree combined with demonstrable interest to apply the knowledge in the field of finance.

Candidates must be physically located and eligible to live and work in the United Kingdom.
