An opportunity has arisen in MJ Hudson Allenbridge’s data & analytics division for an Associate to assist in our coverage of the UK’s venture capital and tax-advantaged investment funds. Perfect for someone who has a passion for venture capital and start-ups, our dream Associate will be an intellectually curious, driven, team-oriented person who can juggle multiple responsibilities and manage their own workflow with minimal direct supervision. As part of a small venture capital team, the successful Analyst will have a “start-up mind-set”, helping both to produce great deliverables, but also with a passion for helping to drive the business forward as it seeks to scale.

About the role

The Associate will support our research on venture capital funds and tax-advantaged investments as a member of the research and analytical team and assist with a variety of research projects. As well as attending due diligence meetings and assisting in the compiling of reports, the Associate will also help maintain the data from AdvantageIQ, our in-house due diligence questionnaire and data system. The role may change over time, based on business needs and the ability of the Associate should be comfortable managing their own workflow, and over time take on more responsibility.

Recently analysts have written in-depth reports on venture capital issues, as well as overviews on investing in the media and the biotech sectors; helped redesign our data visualisation for VC performance; built an asset allocation model for a leading wealth manager; and helped put together panel recommendation documents for key advisory clients.

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Researching managers, funds, and the markets in which they operate
  • Assisting in the completion of analysis and report writing
  • Developing expertise quickly on major sectors of interest to the investment community
  • Supporting the other functions of the research and analytical team
  • Leveraging datasets to provide insights on venture capital performance
  • Collect and maintain high-quality data in order to make these insights possible

Candidate profile

  • Three years’ relevant experience in an investment research, financial journalism or similar position
  • A fascination with venture capital and entrepreneurship
  • Proactive and adaptable, with a ‘start-up’ mind-set in terms of finding ways to contribute to the mission
  • We look for candidates who are creative thinkers, who persist in meeting challenges, and who work well as part of a small, ambitious, and dynamic team
  • Someone who can think critically and conceptually, and asks “how can we evidence this idea?”
  • Excellent report writing and verbal communication skills, writing clearly and quickly without many mistakes
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and organisational skills
  • A passion for data-led research and the importance of both quantitative and qualitative methods
  • Part-qualified professional qualifications, such as the CFA, CAIA and others, are welcome
  • Knowledge of the tax-advantaged investments, and/or advising in this space will be strongly favoured


Candidates must have a university degree but can be in any discipline, as long as they also possess a passion for venture capital and investing. A demonstrable knowledge of investments, and in particular venture capital. Candidates must be physically located and eligible to live and work in the United Kingdom.
