Lisette van Niekerk


Lisette joined the firm in 2014 as an Associate. As an industrial ecologist, she has deep knowledge on sustainability and applies systems thinking to solve complex business challenges. Lisette is an impact-driven professional and is particularly passionate about developing sustainable business strategies and climate innovation.

Areas of Expertise


Lisette followed a complementary (Climate-KIC) Master track on climate innovation and entrepreneurship, and turned this knowledge into practice as participant in a start-up accelerator program with start-up ‘CocoPallet’.

After her studies Lisette worked at Spring Associates, where she worked on strategy and innovation engagements with (large) corporates, primarily in the energy sector, and specifically focused on energy transition. Early 2019, Lisette was seconded to in-house team at Bregal Investments in London to provide support on Responsible Investing matters.


  • Lisette holds a Master’s degree in Industrial Ecology (cum laude) from Delft University of Technology and Leiden University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from the Technical University of Delft (cum laude). Her thesis involved research on the Planetary Boundary framework and corporate ‘science-based’ targets.

Recent engagements

  • Six-month secondment to in-house team at Bregal Investments, London, to provide support in developing and integrating responsible investing practices and ESG strategies at its portfolio companies.
  • Led multi-year engagements with several leading European Private Equity firms in developing and integrating ESG strategies, including assessment of ESG risks and opportunities at 100+ portfolio companies. One engagement has been awarded the (first) ‘ESG award 2017’ by the Dutch Private Equity association ‘NVP’.
  • Led and/or contributed to the development of carbon neutral roadmaps and sustainability strategies for a dozen of clients.
