FAQs – Law Graduate Training Contract

Do I need to have prior experience in the private equity sector?

Previous experience is not essential. For us, it is more important that you are able to demonstrate a genuine interest in private equity and getting involved with the work at MJ Hudson. We understand that you may demonstrate this in different ways, such as work experience, extra-curricular activities, or keeping up-to-date with relevant current affairs.

Can first/penultimate year students apply for the vacation scheme?

Only final-year, postgraduate, GDL and LPC students are eligible to apply to the scheme.

Do you have any minimum requirement for A Levels and Undergraduate degree?

We ordinarily expect applicants to have at least a 2:1 and good A-level grades, however, we will evaluate your application and experience as a whole rather than looking at purely grades.

Do you provide feedback at any stage in the interview process?

If you request it, we will provide brief feedback following on from the Graduate Speed-Networking Event and after interviews.

Do you recruit on a rolling basis?

For graduate roles we have specific open dates for applications. We recruit for the Spring and Summer Vacation Schemes during autumn/winter and training contracts over the summer. [add link to dates]

Do I need to have completed a vacation scheme with the Company to gain a training contract?

Not necessarily. While we do often take on vacation scheme students as trainees, we are open to hiring candidates straight into training contracts who have not completed a vacation scheme with us.

How many trainees do you recruit per year?

We aim to take 2-4 trainees each year and have space for 4 candidates for each scheme.

Whom do I contact if I require to change the interview dates?

Please email the People and Wellbeing team through recruitment@mjhudson.com

Do you sponsor visas?

Unfortunately, we are unable to sponsor visas for graduate positions.

How much partner contact do trainees have?

To quote our current trainees – a lot! Owing to the small size of the company and the open plan office, trainees often work with partners. Additionally, the Company holds team meetings and weekly training sessions where trainees have the opportunity to interact with partners whom they may not have worked with before.

Edyta Brozyniak is our designated trainee partner, who oversees the trainees throughout their training contract.

Edyta: “The best endorsement of the training and work at MJ Hudson is that you will not be “one of the trainees” but you will be recognised and appreciated as an individual from the day you join.”

What are the hours of work?

MJ Hudson’s contractual hours are from 9:30am – 5:30pm, but as with any job, (particularly training contracts), you may be expected to work outside of these hours due to business needs. We do not promote a culture of being at your desk after hours just for the sake of it, but as with any business we do have deadlines to meet, so working beyond these hours is often required.

What is the dress code?

From Monday to Thursday we expect our employees to come in to work looking smart and professional, particularly if meeting clients. On Fridays we operate a dress-down policy, however if you are meeting a client you must wear formal business attire.
